Affiliate Marketing is a lucrative and exciting business to be a part of. There are millions of products and services that you can promote, advertise and turn your efforts into dollars! Most affiliate marketers do not start out as professional promoters and go through learning curves of “what works, what doesn’t and what not to do”.
The world of Affiliate Marketing is HUGE! There are many things you have to learn. There are so many avenues to promote, ways to promote, websites, programs, terms, and the list goes on and on. In the beginning there are infinite things being thrown in front of you it can be overwhelming it’ll make your eyes go crossed!
My goal in this article is to help you avoid some common mistakes that are made in Affiliate Marketing. We are all human, mistakes are going to happen. When they do, stay positive, keep your head up, and just concentrate on your end goal!
Choosing the Wrong Niche

Many people in the beginning stages of their Affiliate Marketing journey often pick a niche to promote because it is very popular at the time and they just see dollar signs. When you pick out your niche, you will want to pick something that you are passionate about. Something that you are very interested in.
To succeed in Affiliate Marketing, you need to have quality content. Picking something that is popular today, that you are not really interested in will show in your content. To create quality content, choose a niche that drives you. Something that you can write about in depth. Something that you can help other people become proficient in.
Me for example. My niche is helping people succeed in Affiliate Marketing. I chose this because the whole process fascinates me, I am passionate about learning it and to be successful at it. I want to pass my knowledge along to as many people that I can along the way.
Your niche can be anything! Whatever you are passionate about there are products and services available that people are actively searching for. All that’s missing is YOU being there with the answers they are looking for!!
Promoting Too Many Products
While it might seem like a great idea in the beginning to promote as many products as you possibly can. In reality, it can be detrimental to your success. I had the same thought process when I started out. I thought if I promoted every single product that had anything to do with my niche, I was bound for sale upon sale. WRONG!
I hadn’t helped consumers with what they needed to know or explained how the product or service could help them. They were left without the answers they sought and ended up looking looked elsewhere.
In the beginning, pick a product or two that you really like that relates to your niche. Do an in depth review, write a few separate articles on how this product can help or solve some problems. As your traffic increases you can concentrate on expanding your product promotion. Keep it simple in the beginning, you will thank me later.
Low Quality Website
A website is like your car. You want to be able to drive across the country and not have to worry about it breaking down, right? Just like you are putting all of this time and effort to grow your business, you want a quality and dependable website.
Creating a website in today’s world is very simple. You no longer have to know coding or HTML protocols. All you have to do is be able to look at an example, find a theme, choose one you like, and create your website. It’s that easy, with the click of button, you could be on your way! Want to see how it works? Click here
Things to consider when picking a theme to your’e website are:
- Is it easy to navigate?
- Will it be bogged down with nonessential needed features?
- The look or flow in general
- Is it functional?
- Keep it simple
The bells and whistles are nice but in reality the more simple your website is the better off you will be. After all, people are searching for an answer to a problem, and they have landed on your site for the answer. If they cannot read and see it without having to click through a bunch of widgets and confusing menus they will likely hit the back arrow and continue their search somewhere else.
You want to have a simple website, use dark text on a light background that isn’t bogged down with graphics, ads and offer quality content with solutions to their problems.
The Absence of Regular High-Quality Content
Another common mistake that Affiliate Marketers make is by not providing regular high-quality content.
This can also be very detrimental to your bottom line! Content is the most important aspect of your business. Without relavant reviews or solutions to problems or needs, the probability of having visitors to your site goes down quickly.
Write your content with a purpose. Make sure the article is helpful in some way to your prospective customer. Do not just write to be writing. People will not find value in that.
When writing, picture yourself as a prospective customer and ask yourself:
- What would I be looking for?
- What would help me?
- What are things I should avoid?
- Are there any must haves?
There are many ways to spark the creative beast inside you. Those are just 4 common questions that I ask myself when I am trying to come up with new content to write about.
Conclusion
Mistakes are going to happen. There are countless more than the few that I have listed. Just keep in mind when you are faced with an ostacle, try not to lose focus on your goal and make the obstacle bigger than what your are trying to achieve. Surrounding yourself with like minded people helps with getting through tough times. Having a community of people that have been there and willing to offer advice is priceless.
There are a lot of platforms and programs out there to help you acheive your goals. I can’t speak for all of them, but I can say for certain that I absolutely love the community that I am a part of. It has helped me become 1000% better than I was before I discovered them. They have a no-strings attached free membership. Check it out and see for yourself.
